Today, I want to talk about You! Be Yourself – you are special, you are worthy, you are more than enough. Please don’t sell yourself short and settle for less than you deserve. You don’t need to be someone else; just be yourself. You don’t need to pretend or to fake it or to try to force yourself into situations that are not meant for you. Surround yourself with people who will build you up rather than tear you down.
You don’t need to change your physical appearance to conform to someone else’s standards in order to be loved and accepted. Embrace who you are – the person who God made you to be, in all your glory. You were fearfully and wonderfully made; perfectly imperfect. There is only one you and the world needs you – just the way you are.
You see, the problem is if you keep trying to change who you are to become someone else, you will never achieve your purpose. So love yourself just the way you are – flaws and all. Your life is not a popularity contest; it is not your job to make people like you. Live authentically, be the best version of yourself that you can be and the rest will fall into place.
You don’t need to look like a movie star or dress like a designer model, you don’t need to drive the most expensive car, you don’t need to wear lots of bling and carry a designer purse to have value. Let me say this, if all these things represent who you really are, then go on, do you – be the best bling wearing, designer purse carrying, expensive car driving, designer dressing, movie star you can be. But…if that is not who you truly are or your budget can not afford that lifestyle, don’t pretend to be someone who you’re not. Wear what you can afford and you will still be beautiful.
The external is not what makes you you. Be more concerned with what’s inside you than what’s outside. Don’t make financial institutions richer so that you can keep up with the Joneses. As a loan officer once told me, “the bank is not your friend. It is like someone who will lend you an umbrella when it’s sunny and ask to have it back the minute it begins to rain.”
Accept compliments graciously (I know, this is hard – I am my own worst critic). You are uniquely you and you have special gifts and abilities; there are things about you that other people wish they could do/be. Please don’t put yourself down in order to make other people feel better. Instead, embrace the greatness that lies within you and celebrate all that makes you you.
I want to refer you to the beautiful song by Jonny Diaz called “A More Beautiful You” https://jonnydiaz.lnk.to/MBYWE. I bought it for my daughter to remind her she is already perfect just the way she is.
