Change Your Mindset; Change Your Life

In my last post, I talked about the importance of knowing who you are when facing major decisions. This week I’m going to talk about 5 changes you can make to your mindset, which will change your life.

Get out of your comfort zone – If you want to achieve more than you already have, then you need to challenge yourself. You have to stretch yourself in order to grow. If you keep doing the same thing over and over, you will keep getting the same result. So, if you want something additional, you have to kick it up a notch. Step out of your comfort zone and try something different – maybe something you have never tried before. I promise you it will be scary. Anytime you venture into unfamiliar territory it is scary but don’t let fear of the unknown stop you.

Believe in yourself – Always believe in yourself. Even if no one else believes in you, just silence the noise and focus on your goals. You need to be your biggest cheerleader. Trust your instincts and never let anyone else tell you what you can or cannot accomplish. Don’t allow others to place limits on you. The only limits on you are the ones you have in your mind, but “where there is a will, there is a way”.

Chase your dreams – Chase your dreams with gusto. Don’t be afraid to go after what you want. Even if you think you may not have what it takes, just go for it. What’s the worst that can happen? You don’t make it. At least you will know that you tried and it is better to try and fail than to have regrets that you never tried at all. Also, if you do fail, it doesn’t mean you can’t try again – “if at first you don’t succeed, try, try, try again.” Use what you learned from the precious experience and keep going until you get to where you want to be.

Let your light shine – All of us are gifted in different ways – no two people are exactly the same. This means that you have special gifts, skills, and abilities that are unique to you. Do you consciously and actively use them? Or do you keep some of your gifts hidden? Maybe you don’t realize you have some of your gifts or maybe you are reserved and prefer not to be in the spotlight (I’m guilty of this). Whatever the reason, it is time to let your light shine and shine brightly for all to see. The world needs your gifts, so go ahead, share them and let that light shine.

Own your power – You are powerful. Own it. Use it for good. Stand up and speak up against injustice. Be a voice to the voiceless; be a help to the helpless. When you are in a space, occupy it fully, don’t allow others to dismiss you. You have a contribution to make, so go ahead and make it. Don’t compare yourself to others, what you offer to the world is different from what others offer, but no less important. If you have a seat at the table, make sure the interaction at that table was better by having you there.

I hope these small changes in your thinking will result in significant changes in your life. Good luck.
